Bernhard Langer and Using a Compass in Practice Rounds

Bernhard has for a long time used a compass during his practice rounds to check the direction a hole runs. Famous for being meticulous in preparing for a tournament, Langer has long used a compass to know the direction each hole runs so that he can match that against the daily wind direction. Its about being able to make the appropriate adjustments quickly on course from information collected and processed away from the "heat of battle".

This is very similar to the concept of calculating your par 5 lay ups / go positions during your practice rounds as well.
